As an innovative measure to make rural population less reliant on cash, Bharti Airtel came up with the concept of Airtel Payments Bank, a joint venture between Airtel and Kotak Mahindra Bank. This payment bank allows customers to open a savings account and gain interest which is higher than what other banks are offering.

A subscriber can open and Airtel Payments bank account and have his/her Airtel mobile number as the bank account number. The company is offering an interest of 7.25% on the bank account which is currently the highest rate of interest on savings account in the banking industry. With every deposit the customer gets an equivalent talk time. Above that the customer will also benefit a free personal accident insurance cover of INR 1 lakh.

Advantages of Airtel Payment Banking to customers from rural areas

Airtel has made it convenient for village based subscribers to make digital payments through Airtel Payments banking. The operator enabled its banking services across 100 villages in Tamil Nadu to bring cashless culture into the unbanked areas as a means to contribute towards the financial development of the country.

Airtel’s take on ‘Infinity’ plans in response to Jio’s offers

Previously Airtel had introduced its postpaid ‘Infinity’ plan that offered 3GB of 4G data along with 100 SMS/day, unlimited local/STD calls to any operator and free incoming roaming calls at the cost of INR 549. Presently the telecom operator is offering the same at INR 499. However, the INR 549 plan will now offer 4GB of data.

In prepaid plans, Airtel’s INR 345 plan which offers 28GB of 4G data (1GB/daily) and unlimited voice/calls with a validity of 28 days. In the daily allowance of 1GB, 500MB of data will be available during the day and the balance 500MB can be consumed between 3 am and 5 am at night.
